Helpful Resources For Estate Planning

Charity Navigator

It is important to specifically name beneficiaries, including any desired charities as well as individual persons. The official charity name and mailing address are sometimes listed in legal documents.

Charity Navigator and other websites may help you clarify your preferred charity. You may also search irs.gov for tax exempt organization status.

Please be aware that many charities exist having similar names, so please confirm the identity of your desired charity by location, the named charitable purpose, and IRS qualification as a tax deductible done or recipient beneficiary. My firm provides you tools to help you confirm your giving goals.

NC Organ Donation

Organ donation preferences should be communicated to family and medical providers during your lifetime. Preferences noted solely on wills or trusts may not be discovered or reviewed in time to implement.

Organ donation instructions may be noted by various means including registering your wishes with the NC Organ Donation website.

CTA Corporate Transparency Act

The Corporate Transparency Act established a new reporting requirement related to formally organized entities such as a Corporations,  LLCs, and partnerships. The CTA requires the entity to specifically identify the owners, managers, and beneficiaries of all such entities. While this is a bureaucratic burden, it should be taken seriously because the new law imposes significant penalties for failure to comply.
